Join a dynamic team of Wave Hill educators who co-lead and evaluate art- and science-based programs. Educators develop a solid understanding of Wave Hill's core content to make high quality experiences fun and memorable. Educators also co-develop and lead a wide variety of educational programming including multi-session and single-session workshops, theatre-based presentations, and pilot concepts. In addition to daily teaching, administrative duties include curriculum writing; maintenance and ordering supplies; and other duties as deemed necessary. Full-time positions are 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday with occasional weekends required.

Inquiry-based learning is the hallmark of Wave Hill's School Programs, which include in-depth school partnerships, art and science workshops and nature based theatre assembly programs. All programs are designed to leverage mandated learning standards in relationship to authentic discoveries. REQUIREMENTS:

Part-time Actor-Educator

The National Children's Museum, Washington, DC

 

The National Children’s Museum theatre department seeks 2-3 paid, part-time actor-educators to perform interactive theatre for children and families as part of its Museum Without Walls program. Two productions are currently being developed: one scripted 15-minute puppet show and one improvisational character-driven performance. The productions will serve as prototypes for programs that will be implemented in the new museum scheduled to open in 2012.

 

Must be creative, flexible, skilled in improvisation, and comfortable working with children. Experience with museums, education and/or puppets desired.

 

All performances will occur on weekends between 9 AM and 2 PM from July-October, 2008. Some performances will be outdoors at the American Market at the National Harbor, just south of Washington, DC in Maryland. (Free parking available.) Additional performance dates and venues may be added. Regular rehearsals will occur at the National Children’s Museum offices; scheduling is flexible.

Theatrical Program Coordinator

The Putnam Museum, Davenport, IA


Educator-actor to plan and present history and science programs using museum theatre and interpretive techniques. Presentations are designed primarily for visiting school groups, with some performances for general public in the museum and at events in the community.

The position includes a variety of duties to support operation of Museum's Education Dept. including summer camp instruction, public programs and scheduling school group visits. This position is full-time (37.5 hrs/week) year-around and will occasionally involve some evening and weekend hours. Competitive salary and benefits package.

Requirements:  Ability to perform research and write scripts, knowledge of informal education techniques, knowledge of museum theatre techniques and live interpretation, knowledge of technical theatre - ability to coordinate production of sets, costumes, props and other technical elements of presentations.

Monterey Bay Aquarium, Monterey, CA

Guest Experience Summer Actor

 

Actors will perform in theatrical bilingual production in outdoor amphitheater setting and will engage guests through improvisation and music on a conservation topic in the outdoor entry area of the aquarium. Actors will work with Kinan Valdez Writer and Director with Teatro Campesino. This is a Seasonal Assignment from 5/31/2008-9/2/2008.


Learn and deliver scripted performance in addition to utilize improvisational skills and music to engage guests at entry area of the aquarium. Operate technical equipment for sound and sound track for performances. Work with Guest Experience Programs staff for the maintenance of costumes and props and be able to work with large costumes. Ability to deliver limited lines in Spanish and/or sing lyrics in Spanish preferred.

Strawbery Banke Museum, Portsmouth, NH

Roleplaying Coordinator

 

Description: Position will average 15 hours a week, but schedule may vary between intensive weeks of program and program preparation in summer and during Museum events (up to 40 hours a week) and midwinter weeks when very few hours are required (as few as 4 hours a week). Scheduling will be flexible. Additional work in the Education and Interpretation department is available in season by combining this position with a Historic Interpreter, Roleplayer, or Museum Teacher schedule. Some weekend and holiday work required. Major responsibilities include:

 

1. Direct the summer Junior Roleplayers program, a two-week intensive training program in historic roleplaying. The Junior Roleplayers program is offered to students ages 12 to 16. During the program, they use research, interactive learning, and a hands-on approach to develop an understanding of one of three time periods – Colonial/Early Republic, Victorian, and Early 20th Century. They then learn to portray characters of those time periods in full costume, performing for the public on the museum grounds as part of the daily program. The Roleplaying Coordinator will plan and run the Junior Roleplayers program, including preparation, supply, coordination, and supervision of an assistant and/or intern. 

 

2. Coordinate the museum’s Historic Roleplayers who perform on the daily program throughout the season. The coordinator will assist in costume research and planning, communicate with sewing contractors, assist in maintenance and organization of costume shop, including laundry and pressing on occasion. Working with the Director of Education, the Coordinator will help plan and execute meetings and training for the Historic Roleplayers. 


Qualifications: Experience with Historic Roleplaying in a museum or historic site setting. Experience working with young people in an educational capacity. Understanding of basic costume history and clothing development. Willingness to help with a variety of tasks. Enthusiasm for museum theatre and roleplaying. Flexible approach to schedule.
